After graduating in Physics, Kalam pursued Aerospace Engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT). His dream was to become a fighter pilot, but destiny had other plans. Though he missed the opportunity to join the Indian Air Force, his commitment to science and his desire to contribute to his country pushed him towards a career in space research.

Kalam joined the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and later the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Here, he played a pivotal role in India’s first satellite launch vehicle (SLV-III), which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in 1980, making India a member of the exclusive space club.

Kalam’s significant contributions to India's missile development programs earned him the nickname "Missile Man." He was the driving force behind India’s successful development of ballistic missile technology, including the Agni and Prithvi missiles. His leadership in India's nuclear tests in 1998 at Pokhran, as a part of Operation Shakti, firmly established India's position as a nuclear power.

The People's President

In 2002, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India. His presidency was marked by humility, simplicity, and an unwavering commitment to the nation's youth.
